Excellent condition 1969 First Edition Hardcover of “the lives of children: a practical description of freedom in its relation to growth and learning — The Story of the First Street School” by George Dennison. Published by Randon House.
First Street School of New York’s Lower East Side was an experimental private school with low tuition and great teacher student ratio. They practiced an open door open socialist type hippie system. The neighborhood then was impoverished. The kids came from low income backgrounds. This is Dennison’s story told by him of how he made improvements in these neighborhood kids’ educations compared to the local public schools.
A classic of 1960’s ideas in education.
